Recording / Mixing notes:

Two tracks were recorded off the house PA system at Peachtree Tavern. Recorder used was a Korg D888 digital recording studio. The two tracks provided were not a strictly a stereo mix. Thus, to get some stereo feel, I biased the left track towards bass and the right track towards mid so that the bass guitar tends to sound to the left and the other guitars tend to sound to the right. I added a slight vocal echo to provide a little dimension to the sound.

Mixdown was done on the Korg KRK near field monitors. Final sound processing was done using Sony Sound Forge 8.0 software. Sound Forge was used to produce the 256 kbs MP3 files. These files are larger, but they are very close to CD quality sound.

I did not record Everlong, the first number in the set as I did not start to set up until after the set had started. I was able to catch about 1/2 of Basket Case. After that, most of the performance is intact with maybe a bit missing for some of the starts where the band didn't break long enough between numbers for me to get the recorder reset.

I noticed a little "crackle" sound in the vocals on Jet Plane and Jesse' Girl that seems to be coming from the house system. My guess is a bit of a heavy hand on a compressor. It is hardly noticable during performance and only comes out listening without the audience noise.

Other than echo and EQ, the sound files are close to the raw sound going to the house speakers. The audience, of course, heard a mix of house amplification and instrument amps plus the drum set. The sound files could be groomed more to sound more like commerically produced music - compression mainly and track equalization. I equalized the tracks by ear so they won't likely play sequentally with similar loudness - but they seem close to me.

I think this is a darn good set. Live sessions are demanding. Enjoy!
