Parents Memorial Dedicated

Thanks to the generosity of Rich Andrews '67, the parents of cadets have been recognized for what they do. The Parents Memorial is a bronze sculpture mounted on black granite that depicts a Cadet Color Guard marching down Bear Drive. Below them is the Academy Seal. And below the seal is an inscription which reads
In tribute to Our Parents. You have always been there with tireless love, patience, encouragement, and words of wisdom. No words can express our gratitude for all you have contributed to what we have become.
The artist who created the sculpture, Bob Shure, joined the donor, Rich Andrews '67 in presenting the memorial to the Superintendent as part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities. The Parents Memorial is located in front of Leamy Hall and has already received many favorable comments.

Rich sent this message about the Memorial:
After my parents died about eight years ago I was looking for some way to honor them. About the same time the Academy was looking for "projects" to beautify the grounds (thats when the Bear Plaza thing got going). I asked the Academy if it was OK for me to fund and put in place a memorial to all parents and dedicate it to my own. After they approved the plan we had many years of making changes to the project in order to make it "politically correct". I think we did and I believe it did turn out nicely in a good location.
